Ryan Consulting Group, Inc. is seeking a Data Center Support Operator (Level 1 or Level 2) to support day-to-day data center operations, hardware maintenance, and infrastructure support activities in a fast-paced enterprise environment. Position level will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

This role is responsible for assisting with server installations, rack-and-stack activities, cabling, hardware troubleshooting, inventory management, and incident response coordination while working closely with Data Center personnel, Systems Administrators, OEM vendors, and IT support teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Data Center personnel to install components into existing equipment, install new equipment into racks, and make all cable connections for equipment delivered to the Data Center 
  • Coordinate the movement of equipment into, within, between, or out of supported Data Center facilities 
  • Un-rack equipment that has reached end of life, remove HDDs, harvest critical components, and prepare equipment for salvage 
  • Coordinate with IT and Hosting Services personnel to harvest critical spare parts from surplus/salvage equipment and maintain inventory, tracking, and utilization records 
  • Provide vendor escorts within the facility or Data Center for equipment delivery and servicing as needed 
  • Respond to ITSM incident tickets, including on-call/after-hours support as required 
  • Work with Systems Administrators to diagnose hardware issues and return failed server hardware to service 
  • Coordinate with Systems Administrators, Hosting Services personnel, and OEM vendors to utilize available spare parts and repair failed server hardware 
  • Coordinate OEM repair activities, including opening incidents, arranging onsite technician access, temporary badging, and escorting as needed 
  • Communicate incident status and escalate issues as necessary to minimize Return to Service time and meet incident response goals 
  • Maintain timely and accurate ITSM incident updates 
  • Update spare-parts inventory tracking tools as needed 
  • Update the Asset Management Database (AskIT) as needed
Requirements
  • 1-2 years (minimum) of experience in a Data Center Environment 
  • Technical familiarity with computing, networking, and storage technologies 
  • Experience installing server components, including RAM, HDDs, PCI cards, and processors 
  • Working knowledge of Data Center operations and procedures 
  • Experience with server hardware troubleshooting and diagnostic tools 
  • Ability to safely handle and install internal server components 
  • Ability to troubleshoot Ethernet and fiber cabling 
  • Knowledge of UNIX and Windows operating system commands 
  • Understanding of SAN and disk architecture 
  • Understanding of network protocols and services 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to the top of a computer rack 
  • Ability to use basic hand tools to install and uninstall computing equipment in racks 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel 
  • Ability to work accurately under short deadlines and pressure 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to take direction and work effectively in a team environment

  • HPE Servers, including OneView and iLO 
  • Cisco switches 
  • Dell Storage 
  • NLYTE Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) 
  • IEEE and manufacturer cabling specifications 
  • Electrical and HVAC mechanical systems and their impact on raised-floor capacity 
  • Server OEM incident reporting systems and procedures 
  • MAXIMO and Service Central 

Preferred Certifications:

  • MCSE 
  • MCSA 
  • CompTIA A+ 
  • CompTIA Network+ 
  • CCNA 

Schedule:

The standard schedule for this position is Tuesday–Friday (4x10). To maximize training and familiarization with other team members, the selected candidate will initially work either:

  • Monday–Friday (8x5), or 
  • Monday–Thursday (4x10) 

before transitioning to the standard Tuesday–Friday schedule.
