Eyewear Consultant

Beach Eye Care | Full-Time | In Person

Expected total compensation: $20-$25 per hour for someone entering the field, including hourly base pay plus commission.

Great with people? We can teach you optical.

You do not need optical experience to be successful in this position.

“We are not necessarily looking for someone who already knows glasses. We are looking for someone who already knows how to perform at a high level with people. We will teach the glasses.”

Some of our strongest team members have come from restaurants, hospitality, premium retail, and other high-volume customer-service environments. If you know how to stay organized during a rush, communicate well with different personalities, solve problems, and create an exceptional customer experience, those skills transfer extremely well to optical.

Beach Eye Care is a fast-paced, growing eye-care practice. We are looking for people who are strong with customers, learn quickly, pay attention to detail, and are comfortable helping patients make informed purchasing decisions.

Optical experience is welcome, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right person from the beginning.

Compensation

Expected total compensation: $20-$25 per hour for someone entering the field.

Compensation includes an hourly base rate plus commission. Our commission program typically adds approximately $4-$8 per hour to base pay depending on performance and your ability to educate patients and recommend appropriate products.

Experienced and licensed opticians may qualify for higher compensation based on experience and credentials.

This is not a high-pressure sales environment. Our approach is based on understanding what the patient needs, educating them about their options, and helping them make a good decision.

Training With an Established Team and Room to Grow

You will be joining a growing optical team of approximately 20 people, with an average employee tenure of about 8 years. We have experienced opticians and leaders available to help train new team members, while still expecting people to take ownership of learning and performance.

Training is structured and continues as your skills develop. Most new team members spend their first several weeks learning our products, systems, measurements, insurance processes, and patient experience standards, with continued coaching as they become more independent.

What You Will Learn

· Help patients select eyewear based on lifestyle, prescription needs, personal style, and budget

· Understand frame fit, fashion, and current eyewear trends

· Educate patients about lens technologies and treatment options

· Take accurate optical measurements

· Explain vision-plan benefits and patient options

· Adjust and fit eyewear

· Use technology to assist with measurements and product selection

· Build long-term relationships with patients

· Develop the technical knowledge needed to grow into the optician profession

You will work with experienced optical professionals in a large ophthalmology and optometry practice using modern eyewear, lens technology, and measurement systems.

Schedule

This is a full-time position averaging approximately 38-40 hours per week.

Our optical schedule is considerably different from traditional retail:

· No Sundays

· Typically one late shift per week, ending around 7:00 PM

· Saturday hours are generally 8:00 AM-2:00 PM

· When fully staffed, Saturday rotation is typically about one Saturday every 3-4 weeks

· Employees normally work five days per week, so a Saturday shift typically means having another day off during the week

· Occasional overtime may be available depending on staffing

This position may rotate among Beach Eye Care locations based on business and staffing needs.

Minimum Qualifications

· At least 2 years of customer-facing experience in customer service, hospitality, restaurant, retail, sales, or a similar environment

· Strong communication skills

· Strong attention to detail

· Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

· Ability to stand and move throughout the workday

· Ability to lift up to 30 pounds

· Ability to work the schedule described above

· Willingness to travel between Beach Eye Care locations when needed

Optical experience is not required.

Licensed opticians and experienced optical professionals are also encouraged to apply and may qualify for higher starting compensation.
