Job Summary
Maintain an onsite presence to represent Underwood Engineers and its’ clients through the construction phase of a project(s). Will work closely with and be responsive to Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Construction Services Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicates with Contractor daily regarding scheduling, conformance with project documents/specifications, quality control issues and measurement for payment.
- Communicates with Project Engineer, Project Manager, and Construction Service Manager on a regular (daily or as defined by the design team) basis concerning progress of work, non-conforming work, construction conflicts, design concerns, potential change orders, project staffing needs, project scheduling, and work that is beyond the requirements of the project.
- Observes construction technique and performance of Contractor at project site. Provides comment on adequacy of performance in accordance with the plans and specifications.
- Maintains knowledge of project specifications as they relate to Contractor’s performance.
- Review applicable designs, specifications, and shop drawings prior to the work being started.
- Observes materials for compliance with specifications and approved shop drawings as materials are delivered to the site.
- Follows Underwood Engineers policies and procedures regarding construction services.
- Review/monitor/observe lab testing and field test requirements with the Contractor and UE sub-consultants as necessary and immediately inform the project manager of any failed tests.
- Participates in resolution of problems encountered during construction.
- Provide a monthly QA/QC summary report.
- Identifies defective work and acts to notify Project Manager, Project Engineer and Contractor immediately using appropriate verbal and written communication.
- Provides draft responses to Contractor’s RFIs and ESIs for review by the Engineer.
- Coordinates with local utilities, local residents and other agencies affected by the project as needed.
- Provides input on claims and draft written responses. Assist Project Managers in negotiating cost proposals when and if necessary.
- Maintain record information, including full site markups of drawings and tie sheets for any buried components. Record Drawings are to be updated regularly as construction proceeds and be must completed prior to substantial completion.
- Utilize or coordinate the use of the UE owned GPS units to collect record drawing information.
- Manage photographic records of construction progress, conflicts and resolutions during construction, non-conforming work and corrections, and any additional work performed by the Contractor.
- Prepares and signs daily field reports describing daily events to include, construction site personnel and equipment, conflicts and conflict resolutions, and equipment and pertinent communications with the Contractor. Daily field reports shall be prepared daily and submitted no greater frequently than weekly.
- Issues field orders upon consent with Project Engineer, Project Manager and Owner of the project.
- Reviews Contractor’s monthly payment requisitions and makes recommendations to Project Manager based on satisfactory work completed and stored material quantities.
- If requested, prepare draft monthly payment requisitions for review by the Project Manager.
- Draft minutes of monthly progress meetings for review and comment by Project Manager.
- When requested, facilitate, and run monthly project meetings.
- Assist design team with review of shop drawings, as requested.
- Prepares punch list.
- Travel required.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is not responsible for directly supervising employees but may be requested to train and mentor Junior Project Engineers or Interns with knowledge of construction experiences, particular project protocols or procedures.
Software Requirements
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel. Knowledge of Bluebeam PDF software preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- Minimum five (5) years similar field experience preferred.
- Ability to clearly communicate issues and deficiencies as appropriate.
- Is familiar with current safety standards employed during construction.
- Junior Resident Project Representative may have less experience; however, field assignments provide an opportunity to gain experience under the supervision of a Resident Project Representative.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Professional Engineering license preferred, but not required.
- If not licensed, must be approved by the funding source and/or NHDES to work on projects under the guidance of a licensed engineer.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- 10-Hour OSHA Training Certificate.
