Description

Position Objective: 

To promote the implementation and funding of modern, animal-free research methods to replace experiments on animals in the U.S..


Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Present the sound scientific case for adoption of the principles of PETA scientists’ Research Modernization Deal to government and government-funded scientists and other decision makers

• Develop and implement science policy initiatives to meet the position objective.

• Draft and consult on the content of letters, factsheets, white papers, reports, government comments, and other types of correspondence 

• Present complex recommendations and represent the organization in dealings with federal agencies, public- and private-sector organizations, international forums, multinational companies, media, and advocacy and special-interest groups

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

• M.S. (preferred) or B.S. in a related field

• 3+ years of experience in the fields of science, health, or public policy

• Demonstrated success working with decision-makers to shape policy

• 3+ years of experience at the National Institutes of Health or other government agency preferred

• Familiarity with research, medical and scientific terminology strongly preferred.

• Ability to conduct in-depth research on policy topics

• Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to interact with government agencies and members of the public in a professional manner

• Proven ability to make sound, independent judgments

• Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

• Demonstrated ability to handle many issues simultaneously

• Ability and willingness to travel 

• Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record

• Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's position on the use of animals in experiments

• Commitment to the objectives of the organization




  

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $111,322 annually. The ultimate salary within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
