Description

JOB SUMMARY:  

Administers and directs the physical agents utilized in physical medicine and rehabilitation as prescribed by a physician.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Under the direction of a physician, performs physical therapy treatments on patients

  1. Reviews the diagnosis of patients, evaluates the patients condition, establishes a plan of treatment, and performs discharge planning and re-evaluation. 
  2. Instructs and prepares the patient for the treatment. 
  3. Applies the appropriate physical agents, therapeutic exercises and ambulatory procedures, and informs the patient of the treatment process. 
  4. Monitors patients during treatments. 
  5. Records patient treatments on charts and provides information to the Director and physicians. 
  6. Provides care appropriate for pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. 
  7. Assesses and interprets data on neonate and the pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients’ status to identify patients’ requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.

B. Assists in the maintenance of physical therapy equipment

  1. Performs minor maintenance and periodic and preventative maintenance on equipment as directed. 
  2. Cleans and properly stores equipment after use. 

C. Directs the work of assistants and aides

  1. Supervises assistants and aides in their duties supporting patient treatments. 
  2. Directs assistants and aids in their duties assisting and transporting patients.
Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Education: Graduate of an accredited Bachelor Degree program in Physical Therapy. (will consider Physical Therapy assistant) 

B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Knowledge of physical therapy

equipment. Effective oral and written communication abilities.

C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: Texas Physical Therapy License.

D. Experience:

Prior Work Experience: One year experience as a Licensed Physical Therapist preferred.

Technical Training: None required.

E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Repeated bending, stooping, reaching and pushing and pulling. Lifting 70 pounds from floor to knuckle and transfer 110 pounds from wheelchair to bed. Heavier lifting in transferring or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless.


OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:

A. Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis. 

B. Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere. 

C. Interacts with Medical Staff members on a continuous basis.

D. Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials. 

E. Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Hospital.
