POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Coordinate site-specific planning, development, staff oversight, and implementation of all activities for the Youth and Family Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to and implement YMCA mission and philosophy.
- Always model and support the YMCA character values (Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility).
- Responsible for upholding the YMCA employee appearance guidelines.
- Mentor and train staff by leading groups, games, and activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all staff and children.
- Supervise and encourage staff to provide a safe and healthy environment.
- Establish a positive relationship with school and program staff and its participants.
- Prepare and distribute USDA and HEPA approved snacks and/or meals to participants.
- Perform daily count of meals and snacks served.
- Know and implement licensing requirements of DHS for school age programs.
- Maintain acceptable DHS licensed ratios at all times.
- Administer and oversee the curriculum outlines daily as part of the goals set in conjunction with the YMCA Director.
- Maintain accurate paperwork including incident reports, discipline forms, registration forms, staff documents, attendance sheets, and enrollment records.
- Keep areas clean and equipment organized.
- Report any facility concerns or safety issues to Director.
- Communicate regularly with children and parents.
- Develop and distribute monthly site newsletters.
- Assist the Youth & Family department with departmental tasks and shift coverage.
- Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS:
This position directly affects the overall YMCA’s operation. When done properly, the Program will have grown and will help provide a positive atmosphere and enhance the Mission of the YMCA.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must stay current in CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
- Must complete all required Redwoods Trainings within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.
- Must exemplify and support the philosophy of the YMCA.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have 12 hours elementary education or child development course work OR at least two years' experience working with children.
- Should embody patience, sensitivity, maturity, and the ability to relate well to both children and adults.
- Scheduling, supervising, and evaluating staff, address parent concerns and communicate effectively both oral and written.
