Mentee Class A CDL - Roundwood and Chips Driver
Description

Position Summary:

The Mentee Driver will learn the intricate details of how to safely haul wood in all four Maine seasons from a Truck Driver Mentor. This position is intended to train newly licensed CDL drivers over the course of two years. They will learn to safely and efficiently drive a tractor-trailer to load and deliver round wood and chips to various locations throughout Maine.   




Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to pass Federal DOT drug screen and physical. 
  • Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and meet company requirements. 
  • Ability to take orders, instructions, and guidance from Truck Driver Mentor as well as other management and Treeline supervisors. 

Learn to: 

  • Throw straps over the load so as not to cause personal injury.
  • Effectively deal with other team members in a diplomatic manner in a variety of stressful situations.


Education, Certificates: 

Required:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's Permit. 
  • Driving record maintained in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and meet company requirements. 

Preferred:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. 
  • Valid First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification


Physical Demands:

  • Approximately 75% of the workday is spent driving. 
  • Throwing straps and pulling straps several times throughout the day.
  • Reaching at or above shoulder height frequently
  • Demonstrate visual and auditory acuity in order to safely operate the vehicle
  • Minimal color discrimination and depth perception
  • Exposure to periodic moderate to fairly loud noise, below 85db
  • Climbing in and out of the vehicle frequently
  • The ability to work in all weather conditions
  • The ability to work in all temperatures
  • Wearing OSHA-required PPE
