Medical Lab Technician

AO Multispecialty Clinic (Augusta/Aiken Oncology) is seeking energetic and highly motivated individuals to join the fast growing, privately-owned medical facility in the region. The Medical Laboratory Technician will utilize their training and knowledge to prepare specimens and operate automated analyzers daily. This includes routine medical laboratory tests for accurate, dependable, and timely test results for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. They also assist with minor duties in the Lab as needed. 


Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance on the Vitros Chemistry analyzer and TOSOH AIA-900/2000 on a scheduled basis documenting all maintenance including any unscheduled maintenance. (This includes start-up and shut-down each day.)
  • Perform linearity testing every 6 months on the Vitros chemistry analyzer and TOSOH AIA900/2000.
  • Oversee the Quality Control, Calibrations, Proficiency testing, Maintenance of the Medonic CBC instruments. Including reviewing all data.
  • Perform daily Quality Control, specific test calibrations and ensuring that each test is within the accepted Standard Deviation before patient samples are analyzed. 
  • Keep accurate records documenting daily Quality Control and Calibrations. These records  are to be reviewed daily. 
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and reagents needed to operate instruments  properly. Order supplies as needed and upon arrival, inspect the supplies and put them  away in the proper place.
  • Reconstitute controls and calibrators, as needed, paying close attention to expiration dates.  Maintain that all lot numbers are the correct ones used and adjust means and standard  deviations as control and calibrator lot numbers change. 
  • Analyze appropriate tests as ordered by the provider. 
  • Review results from Chemistry samples analyzed: repeat any Critical High or Critical Low values to ensure result accuracy, dilute appropriate tests as needed. 
  • Report STAT results and Critical results to attending provider, treatment nurse, or nurse in  charge in a timely manner.
  • Keep accurate daily recording of refrigerator/freezer temperatures, room temperature, and humidity. 
  • Work area and work surfaces are always kept clean and neat. 
  • Items used on a frequent basis are kept stocked and organized.
  • Provides assistance to lab staff (Medical Assistants and/or Phlebotomists) in centrifuging the lab samples, UAs and other testing, Quality Control of the Medonic CBC instruments, startup of CBC instruments, calibrations and changing controls. 
  • Complies with all laboratory policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness, and infection control.
  • Responsible for CLIA regulatory compliance.
Requirements
  • Medical Laboratory Associate Degree
  • Completed Clinical Laboratory Rotation 
  • Minimum 4 years of laboratory experience (Preferred Core Lab Experience)
  • ASCP MLT Certification or equivalent required
