Organizational Overview:

Convention of States Action is a 501(c)(4) grassroots nonprofit organization committed to restoring America by living out our mission of building a grassroots army of self-governing activists (www.conventionofstates.com). In doing so, we strive to call a Convention of States under Article V of the U.S. Constitution to propose amendments to limit federal power.


Position Overview:

The Development Officer (internally known as External Relations) at Convention of States Action (COSA) will manage his/her own portfolio of gift prospects and donors. The ERO will work closely with the SVP of External Relations to develop and implement strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects with the capacity for a gift of $500- $1,000. The ERO will build strong long-term relationships with his/her caseload, comprised of generous donors to the organization who are committed to its mission. This is a great opportunity for a smart, hard-working person with sales or development experience.


This position is part-time (up to 29.5 hours per week) with the possibility of moving into a full-time role in the future. Candidates should have availability to work up to 40 hours per week during normal business hours.


Responsibilities:

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors.
  • Actively engage in regular donor/prospect communications.
  • Plan, organize, and direct fundraising strategies and campaigns for major donors to Convention of States.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of understanding of COS work and priorities.
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics.
  • Manage all donor engagement activity through the use of COSA’s CRM.
  • Participate as a member of the External Relations team, and member of all staff through active involvement in team and all staff meetings, events, and training.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in development or business. Sales, marketing, and financial skills are preferred. Above all, we are looking for a smart, motivated person.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently as required. Self-starter.
  • Proven experience with successful fundraising, project management, sales or politics.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs and applications such as: MS Office, Google Suites, Slack, Zoom, Salesforce, or other CRM.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines while delivering high quality work.
  • Ability to learn, understand and maintain current best practices in philanthropic giving.
