The Physician – Dermatology Trainee is a licensed physician seeking to develop specialized expertise in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology under the supervision of experienced dermatologists. This role is designed to provide structured, hands-on training in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of dermatologic conditions while delivering high-quality patient care.
The trainee will progressively build clinical competency, procedural skills, and dermatology-specific knowledge while adhering to all clinical, ethical, and regulatory standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Care & Training
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat common dermatologic conditions under physician supervision
- Perform comprehensive skin examinations, including full-body skin checks
- Develop treatment plans for conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, and other dermatologic disorders
- Participate in the management of chronic dermatologic diseases
Procedural Training
- Assist with and progressively perform dermatologic procedures, including:
- Skin biopsies (shave, punch, excisional)
- Cryotherapy and lesion destruction
- Surgical excisions and closures
- Cosmetic procedures (as appropriate and trained)
- Maintain proper sterile technique and adherence to infection control standards
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately document patient encounters in the EMR in a timely manner
- Ensure all charts are completed, coded, and signed according to practice standards
- Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and all applicable federal and state regulations
- Follow billing and coding guidelines with supervision and training
Patient Experience
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care
- Educate patients on diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive skin care
- Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor with patients and staff
Collaboration & Learning
- Work closely with supervising dermatologists, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff
- Participate in case discussions, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities

- Accept feedback and incorporate it into clinical practice
Education & Licensure
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution
- Active and unrestricted medical license in the State of Oregon (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date)
- DEA license (or eligibility to obtain)
Experience
- Completion of an accredited residency program (preferred but not always required depending on training model)
- Prior exposure to dermatology (clinical rotations, electives, or experience) preferred
