Summary of Position 

In Mercy Hill Kids we equip parents and develop leaders to engage kids with the gospel. The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the outworking of Mercy Hill Kids at his/her respective campus to ensure effectiveness of parent equipping, leadership investment, and gospel engagement. This is primarily accomplished as the AD aids in developing and overseeing the kids programming on a campus level, as well as assisting in events and other responsibilities to further the ministry as a whole.

Duties and Responsibilities  


1.  Leadership Investment (35%)  


1. Ridge Kids Staff Care and Communication 

  • Follow up with Campus Kids Staff about specific needs that arise at weekend services.  
  • Regularly check in with Campus Kids Staff 
  • Empower and Equip Ridge Kids Staff to lead in various areas of MH Kids 
  • Align Ridge Kids Staff with MH Kids Standard Operating Procedures and maintain accountability of SOP.  
  • Meet regularly with Ridge Kids Staff to check in, collaborate, encourage, and address any campus needs or concerns 

2. MH Kids Team Leader Communication 

  • Follow up with Team Leaders and Coordinators  
  • Monthly check ins with Team Leaders and Coordinators 

3. MH Kids Team Member On-Ramp  

  • Facilitate the On-Ramp session following the Weekender, and oversee application processing, workflows, and follow-up with new team members 

4. Developing team members through the Leadership Pipeline 

  • Empower the Kids Coordinator to:  

               -  Identify and train Team Leaders 

               -  Oversee the Team Leader Application process and manage respective workflows 

               -  Promote a culture of shoulder-tapping new team members and leaders 


  • Support Team Leaders leading various teams, troubleshooting as needed 
  • View the upcoming needs of the ministry, and train leaders accordingly 

5. Recruit, develop and train Security Team 

  • Maintain ongoing communication with Security Coordinator and Team Leaders 
  • Oversee Security Team following and implementing MH Kids policies and procedures 
  • Oversee MH Kids Coordinator scheduling security team each week 
  • Collaborate with Security Coordinator to onboard and train new Security Team Members 
  • Manage onboarding workflows for Security Team 

2. Gospel Engagement (25%)  

The primary means of Gospel Engagement is at our weekend gatherings. Therefore, the Associate Director will ensure that the various aspects of MH Kids Ministry are functioning with excellence - this includes:  

1. Kids Team Member Oversight:

  • Work with the MH Kids Coordinator to oversee scheduling for their respective campus, ensuring that ratios are met each weekend.  
  • Ensure the safety of the Kids Space by overseeing the implementation of MH Kids policies and procedures (i.e. monitoring classroom ratios, Never Alone policy, etc.).  
  • Coordinate with Kids Staff, Team Coordinators, Leaders, and Members to communicate pertinent information on a week-to-week basis and address any specific classroom-oriented needs/concerns.  
  • Encourage their Kids Team weekly and seek new ways to improve the team culture at the campus.  

2. Service Details:

  • Setup of the services using the weekly Service Gameplan (alongside the Kids Coordinator). The AD may recruit and oversee a volunteer Environments Team to assist in weekly setup.  
  • Oversee schedule implementation for each service.  
  • Implement ongoing worship and programming to the level of excellency expected in MH Kids, as outlined in the MH Kids Standard Operating Procedures for weekend services.  
  • Oversee and be available to the check-in team; troubleshoot any issues that arise.  
  • Ensure classroom ratios are met and team leaders and members are set up for success (alongside the Kids Coordinator).  
  • Uphold standards for MH Kids as it relates to all first-time guests (i.e. check in process and FTG gift/follow-up).  
  • Gather the necessary information related to the number of kids present, first time guests, and classroom and service headcounts. 
  • Input this data into necessary forms each weekend.  

3. Central Responsibilities (20%)  

1. MH Kids Development: 

  • Assist the Kids Director with a specific area of Mercy Hill Kids at a central level  
  • Identify and plan quarter rocks (goals) and clear plans of execution 
  • Lead in the development of various Kids ministry projects (i.e. Worship development, Kids events, Volunteer care, etc.) 

2. Events:  

  • Assist in planning and execution of various all-church related Kids activities (i.e. Kids Week, Weekender, Family Worship Nights, etc.)  
  • Be responsible for all campus-related Kids events (i.e. Parent Commissioning) 
  • Serve at Executive approved events requiring Childcare.  

4. Parent Equipping (15%)  

1. Baptism counseling:  

  • Oversee and conduct baptism counseling for children who express a desire to be baptized.  
  • Follow up with families through the Baptism workflows (ready or deferred)  
  • Build and train a baptism counseling team using MH Kids training material 

2. Family Engagement:

  • Invest in and connect to families at Mercy Hill weekly during drop off and pick up, through periodic emails and check ins, and following up from conversations and needs of the family 
  • Assist in addressing issues in various families connected to his or her campus through counseling and/or resourcing, alongside the Campus Pastor and Kids Director.  
  • Send birthday cards and notes of encouragement or care to families 

5. Logistics (5%)  

1. First time guests:

  • Ensure all data and information is up-to-date relating to first time guests. 
  • Train service coordinators and check-in teams to engage first time guest families well and help families get connected 
  • Complete workflows and follow up processes for first time guests (alongside Campus Staff) 

2.   Teaching materials: 

  • Oversee the MH Kids Coordinator to ensure that all necessary teaching materials are in place weekly for respective team leaders.  
  • Oversee the MH Kids Coordinator in communicating needs for weekend services to the curriculum staff and the MH Kids Director as necessary. 
  • Oversee the MH Kids Coordinator in providing clear expectations to Team Leaders regarding lessons and activities provided.  

6. Miscellaneous Responsibilities 

This job description is not meant to be an all-inclusive statement of every duty and responsibility that will be required of an employee in this position. Therefore, additional duties, including but not limited to the following, may be assigned: 

  • Provide assistance with miscellaneous duties during the gathering, including first steps, baptisms, communion, etc.   
  • Host a table or serve at Weekender and/or Vision Summit events, church conferences, etc. 
  • Assist in various ways with large-scale events like Kids Week, Fall Launch, Easter, etc. 

Work Hours   

  • Office Hours: Weekend Services, Monday-Thursday per Staff Handbook specifications.
