Our Columbus Ohio office is currently seeking an inspired Senior Project Designer who is eager to bring design expertise and leadership to our healthcare projects while keeping our vision in mind to “Make the World More Humane.”  


Summary

Senior Project Designer- Partners with firm leadership to advance design culture, inspire innovation, and integrate research in all of NAC's work. Provides oversight, direction, and leadership to all associated design disciplines (Architecture, Interior, Landscape, Systems, Site) on the project. Senior Project Designer is the leader in developing and facilitating development of conceptual images and models representing alternative design scenarios for the project. Provides guidance and direction to project team for further refinement of alternative design scenarios. Engages in activities that differentiate and promote NAC’s brand and distinctive design quality.


Requirements


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for conceptual design success on all assigned projects. Provides guidance to the design team in the development of conceptual design alternatives on projects. Responsible to establish design aspirations for various projects
  • Provides guidance in the selection and integration of collected research, ideas, data and concepts. Provides leadership and oversight for team organization and development of conceptual framework for the project
  • Responsible to guide the execution of design concepts throughout all phases, with particular emphasis on early phase development. Works with team members to document and organize these concepts as foundational ideas to the project story
  • Integration of performance-based strategies into design solutions
  • Committed to an integrated practice by collaborating with technical leaders and subject matter experts across disciplines
  • Responsible for cultivating high-performance teams. Nurture an environment of inclusion, collaboration, experimentation, innovation, creativity, and mutual respect. Encourages critical thinking and critique of NAC's design work for continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for mentoring and growing emerging professionals toward future creative leadership
  • Leads and provides guidance to teams in the development of ideas and concepts that can achieve firm differentiation and peer distinction
  • Facilitates design charrettes and organizes regular design team meetings
  • Establish and monitor the project work plan and design staff assignments
  • Responsible for orienting project characteristics that exemplify NAC’s Just Cause and strategic goals
  • Contributes to the development of intellectual capital and content to support NAC's brand
  • Collaborates with marketing and communications teams to pursue publication of our projects that differentiate, and promote our brand locally, regionally, and nationally. Participates in the submission of NAC projects for design awards consideration
  • Promote and contribute to firm's design and thought leadership through participation in events that represent the firm within the design community including community, public, and professional presentations as well as speaker panels
  • Communicate design vision through business development and marketing efforts including interviews and proposals

Competencies:

  • Strong conceptual design and schematic design skills required with an emphasis of conceptual and schematic design skills
  • Strong analytical approach with excellent problem- solving skills
  • Possess a strong balanced blend of design and technical skills
  • Conceptual knowledge of zoning and building codes, specifications, building /engineering systems and agency requirements (NPFA, ADAAG, FGI, OBC, IBC, etc)
  • Proficiency with current 3 D design and graphic design software and ability to interface with BIM documentation tools
  • Possess quality graphic composition and layout skills
  • Advance knowledge of the design process and development of contract documentation. Strong knowledge of practices and methods of the construction administration process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for client presentations, speaking engagements, and industry articles
  • Advanced understanding of design processes and proven ability to deliver client objectives within project budget
  • Possesses a professional work ethic and fosters a design culture of mutual respect, passion, and commitment to design excellence
  • Passion for providing exceptional design and client service

Certification Requirements

  • Architecture License required. LEED AP Certification preferred.

Supervisory Requirements

  • May provide general supervision for project team, with focus on design staff

Work Environment

  • This position operates in a professional open office environment with low to moderate noise levels including collaborative work areas for team meetings. Each office provides collaborative work areas and shared resources such as video conferencing, printing/scanning, and a café for dining. Building construction sites may include varying temperatures, wind, dust, and noise levels and may include hazardous and dirty conditions.

Physical Demands

  • Hand/Wrist/Finger dexterity for 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week
  • Ability to lift a set of construction documents
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time

Position Type/Hours expected to work

  • This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week

Travel

  • Occasional travel depending on project assignments

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Bachelor of Architecture required (accredited university preferred)
  • Master of Architecture preferred
  • A minimum of ten years experience in architectural design related practice or equivalent
