Description

Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio, TX, is searching for an enthusiastic, organized, and skilled full-time Research Assistant/Associate. The candidate will be working on individual experiments and part of a small research team.

The Role:

Are you interested in changing the world? Our laboratory is developing novel technologies to help explore, at the molecular level, how viruses replicate. One approach in our toolbox is engineering affinity reagents that target viral antigenic landscapes with impunity. The resulting molecular recognition motifs can be leveraged as probes and crystallization chaperones to reveal novel mechanisms used by viruses to cause disease. The information not only enables us to determine, “how things work”, but can highlight vulnerabilities for antiviral drug development and even yield new biotechnological tools.

Essential duties would be to; employ recombinant protein expression and purification from E. coli and mammalian cells; protein characterization using chromatography, ELISA and BLI; plasmid manipulation, mutagenesis and sequence analysis; antibody display and engineering. The candidate must possess strong skills in laboratory management and organization; communication; and be self-motivated to learn and implement new knowledge and methods.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Hard working with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and a desire for accuracy;
  • Laboratory bench experience with basic molecular biology, cloning and aseptic techniques;
  • Prior experience with recombinant protein expression, purification and characterization;
  • Performs scientific research asks and operates equipment as required by research tasks.
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard scientific techniques.
