Supports the Secondary Principal in providing leadership and supervision to promote effective teaching and learning of Secondary students and staff.
SUPERVISOR: Secondary Principal & Director of Curriculum & Instruction
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the principal in supervising educational programming which is designed to prepare students to meet the educational standards established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Collaborates and assists in IEP planning, development, and running IEP meetings in the Secondary Department.
Ensures effective collaboration with families, LEA’s and other representative agencies.
Works with other TLC programs (i.e. Walden School, ECC, Elementary) to ensure communication, academic planning, and transition.
Serves as a member of the supervisory team to provide educational leadership to The Learning Center for the Deaf.
Works collaboratively with TLC Specialists and Clinicians.
Counsel students and work closely with parents to help students to assume responsibility for behavior and understand the consequences of their decisions.
Provides direct supervision of the performance of all Classroom Assistants in the department through classroom observations and regularly scheduled meetings.
Observe teachers, hold follow up conferences and maintain records on suggestions for needed improvement and consult with the Secondary Principal on teacher observations.
Supervise daily substitute coverage of all secondary faculty and classroom assistants.
Supports the principal in providing necessary testing or data collection, documentation, and interpretation of data.
Maintains student and staff confidentiality.
Assists in the recruitment, selection and recommendation of all staff in the department.
In the absence of the Secondary Principal, oversees all operations of the Secondary Program.
**May be required to drive students on field trips and/or to mainstreaming classes. Additional driving responsibilities as needed.
