Position Objectives:
• To conceptualize media strategy and generate specialized media coverage for PETA's Humane Education initiatives, youth campaigns,?and of the children and teachers actively promoting animal rights
• To contact and correspond with media representatives
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Brainstorm, plan, and carry out new media outreach strategies for PETA’s youth-focused campaigns, including Humane Education, Teachkind, peta2, and PETA Kids?
• Set the vision for media strategy promotion PETA’s youth-focused campaigns and lead and manage related projects ensuring their successful completion
• Research, identify, develop, and coordinate pitches and correspondence that promote animal rights messages and generate media coverage for PETA’s youth-focused campaigns
• Research and identify appropriate local and national media outlets for placing coverage of PETA's youth-focused efforts
• Develop contacts and establish productive and effective relationships with media representatives
• Adapt to new plans and opportunities quickly, adjust media outreach strategies, and enact plans based on success and analytics
• Research and stay on top of current teaching, parenting, and youth trends in media and track and/or interact with those reporters that are relevant to PETA's youth-focused campaigns?
• Represent the organization to the media
• Keep informed about PETA's work and media coverage
• Keep informed about local and national news stories and track those that are relevant to PETA's campaigns
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
• Degree in a related field or equivalent experience working in a professional environment
• Minimum of three to five years of professional working experience in public relations, communications, or the media industry, preferably with an emphasis on education and/or kids
• Previous project management experience will be helpful in this role
• Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in youth culture and education
• Proven understanding of the current media landscape, including methods of maximizing outreach to growing and emerging mediums
• Ability to think strategically and creatively to achieve objectives and direct strategy
• Willingness and ability to be on call and service rush news releases during weekend and evening hours
• Demonstrated thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns
• Proven ability to cultivate effective professional relationships with a variety of people
• Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Proven ability to take initiative and follow-through?
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and work independently
• Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Proven excellent organizational skills
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines

The salary range for this position is $52,500 - $68,950 annually. The ultimate salary within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
