The Hinckley Company, known for building and servicing, strong, seaworthy, beautiful yachts is seeking a Gelcoat Patcher for our production facility in Trenton, Maine. The Gelcoat Patcher will perform basic repairs and re-gelcoat defects in fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and cabins using hand-tools and power tools. 


Essential Duties:

  • Examines parts for mold and lamination defects, such as cracks, air pockets, and cosmetic flaws.
  • Grinds out defective areas or smooths rough edges using dremel or grinder.
  • Begins to use technical judgment regarding appropriate repair.
  • Cuts patch of fiberglass material, mixes resin and catalyst solution for sized patch.
  • Shapes and smooths edges to match contour of area to be patched.
  • Mixes gelcoat with catalyst and sprays repaired surfaces. Touches up flaws with paintbrush.
  • Buffs and polishes repaired gelcoat surfaces.
  • Follow defined instructions and procedures in the performance of tasks.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain safe, clean work area.
  • All work to be performed and manufactured to Hinckley Company quality standards.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary and assigned.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) required.
  • Zero (0) to six (6) months work experience or the equivalent combined years of education and experience. Work experience may be attained on-the-job and by company training.
  • Knowledge and operation of tape measure, jig saw, belt sander, DA-sander, grinder, buffer, drill, and dremel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and Carry over 25 lbs. and up to 60 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Requires occasionally lifting or moving average weight material.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, push and pull.
  • Requires working under disagreeable conditions on a frequent basis where elements such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, vibration, noise, water or chemicals may be present.
