Description
Responsible for promoting fitness and wellness through the YMCA Group Exercise program. He/she must be committed to serving the general population in their pursuit of health and well-being; be able to conduct group exercise classes in the designated format; promote safety and well-being when developing and implementing classes; be able to build positive relationships with members and staff and be a role model for them, exemplifying high standard and values; and manage those functions in accordance with the mission, goals, and policies stated by the YMCA.
- Plan and lead group fitness classes within the designated time slot
- Make class announcements prior to the beginning of each class
- Be warm and welcoming to all participants
- Be well versed in verbal and nonverbal queuing of exercises
- Ensure class sizes and participants are recorded at the end of each class
- Maintain safety in all classes by following YMCA and national certification guidelines
- Notify supervisor of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accident, or injuries immediately
- Maintain awareness of all YMCA policies and department procedures
- Exemplify and implement the YMCA Health & Wellness standards of quality, including dress code
Requirements
- Ability to work with a diverse population and abilities
- Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals
- Able to assist participants when needed
- Ability to clearly communicate in a group setting with verbal and nonverbal communication
- Instructors must have certification in Red Cross CPR/BLS/AED certification
- Must have or acquire Group Fitness Certification within 60 days of hire
- Completion of at least 3 years of High School or equivalent or Approved Certification from a national organization (ACE, NASM, ACSM, AFAA, etc.) or YMCA Strength and Conditioning and maintain current certification thereafter.
