Description

Gateway Special Recreation Association is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Leaders to join our team. This individual will be responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, and leading recreational programs and activities for people of with developmental disabilities of all ages. The Recreation Leader will work closely with the community to foster a positive and engaging environment while encouraging active participation and well-being.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational programs such as sports, arts and crafts, fitness classes, and community events.
  • Lead and supervise program participants, ensuring safety and engagement during all activities.
  • Set up and take down equipment for activities and events.
  • Monitor and evaluate participant progress and provide feedback as needed.
  • Ensure that all equipment and materials are properly maintained and organized.
  • Enforce safety rules and guidelines, providing first aid or assistance as required.
  • Maintain a positive, friendly, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Assist with registering participants and handling program-related paperwork.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to participants and parents, answering questions and resolving concerns.
  • Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth coordination of recreational programs.
  • Assist with marketing and promoting programs through social media, flyers, or other channels.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.



Requirements
  • Previous experience in recreation programs, sports, or customer service is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire program participants.
  • Basic knowledge of recreational activities and sports.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 30 lbs).
  • Ability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond quickly in case of emergency situations.
