Hudson Institute seeks a director of government relations responsible for developing and executing strategic government outreach initiatives to deliver Hudson policy recommendations to key US and international government officials. Serving on Hudson’s senior leadership team, the director will collaborate with Hudson’s research staff to advance Hudson’s mission and policy research to government officials and policymakers. This is a full-time position based out of Hudson’s Washington, DC office, reporting to the president and CEO and to the executive vice president.

Responsibilities
- Develops and implements a comprehensive government relations strategy for Hudson, focusing on enhancing the impact of Hudson’s research on policy formulation.
- Interfaces with Hudson’s research staff to identify opportunities to influence policy debates, understand key legislative priorities, and develop strategies for delivering Hudson policy recommendations to government stakeholders.
- Builds and maintains strong, strategic relationships with key US government officials, including Members of Congress, congressional staff, and executive branch officials.
- Designs and manages processes for executing engagement strategies with key US policymakers.
- Monitors legislative trends, policy developments, and emerging regulatory debates to identify opportunities for thought leadership and timely government engagement.
- Tracks legislative activities relevant to the Institute, providing regular reports to Hudson’s leadership team for review, and considering ongoing opportunities for deeper and broader government engagement.
- Coordinates and prepares Hudson experts for congressional testimony, government briefings, and meetings with key US officials to effectively communicate the Institute’s research findings and policy recommendations.
- Manages and mentors Hudson’s Government Relations team.

- Demonstrated leadership capacities.
- 10+ years’ relevant work experience in government affairs, Capitol Hill, or federal agencies.
- Ability to develop high-level government relations strategy and translate it into executable operational plans.
- Broad experience gathering and evaluating information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work closely and effectively with colleagues throughout the organization.
