Description

The Teacher’s Assistant performs duties that are instructional in nature or delivers direct services to students. Serves in a position for which a teacher has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeteria, school yards, gymnasiums, during bathroom breaks, on field trips, etc.
  • Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers.
  • Assists children individually or in small groups to help them master content, complete assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Assists with the implementation of schedules and routines.
  • Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
  • Provides extra assistance to students with special needs.
  • Supervises and monitors the safety of students in the classroom.
  • Collaborates as a team player with teachers and staff.
  • Has ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with parents and children.
  • Attends meetings, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Related experience in similar position is preferred.
  • Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. 
  • Employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the church. 
  • Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
