Description
The Teacher’s Assistant performs duties that are instructional in nature or delivers direct services to students. Serves in a position for which a teacher has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeteria, school yards, gymnasiums, during bathroom breaks, on field trips, etc.
- Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers.
- Assists children individually or in small groups to help them master content, complete assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Assists with the implementation of schedules and routines.
- Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
- Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
- Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
- Provides extra assistance to students with special needs.
- Supervises and monitors the safety of students in the classroom.
- Collaborates as a team player with teachers and staff.
- Has ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with parents and children.
- Attends meetings, as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Related experience in similar position is preferred.
- Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings.
- Employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the church.
- Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
