Description


SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: The Media Relations Manager will support the Communications and Marketing team by enhancing organizational visibility and reputation through strategic media engagement. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with journalists, crafting compelling media materials and ensuring consistent, positive media coverage. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with a passion for storytelling and an ability to manage local and national media opportunities effectively.  


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Works with Communications and Marketing team to enhance the DSM USA voice and presence through multiple channels.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with journalists, reporters, editors and influencers across local, regional and national media outlets. 
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses. 
  • Identifies and develops media opportunities to enhance the organization’s brand and thought leadership. 
  • Writes and distributes press releases, media advisories, op-eds and other media materials that align with the organization’s messaging and goals. 
  • Ensures media materials are compelling, error-free and tailored to different audiences and outlets. 
  • Creates talking points for media opportunities.  
  • Develops and maintains an up-to-date press kit and key messaging documents.  
  • Develops and executes proactive media strategies to support key initiatives, events and announcements. 
  • Monitors news trends and identify opportunities to insert the organization into relevant conversations. 
  • Supports crisis communications by preparing responses and managing media interactions during critical situations. 
  • Tracks and analyzes media coverage to measure the impact of public relations efforts. 
  • Provides regular reports and insights to internal teams on media metrics, reach and trends. 
  • Maintains a media contact database and tracks interactions to optimize outreach efforts. 
  • Works closely with internal teams, to align media strategies with broader communication goals. 
  • Provides media training and talking points to key spokespeople to ensure consistent and effective messaging. 
  • Leads coordination of press conferences, media events and interviews. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:


Qualifications:  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives. Must have AP Style experience.  
  • Knowledge of media landscape, including traditional, digital and social media platforms. 
  • Experience managing media lists, monitoring tools and analytics platforms. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with media professionals.

Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or a related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, journalism, reporting.
