Description

     

• Provide   direct supervision and management of Certified Nursing Assistants by giving   constructive criticism and education, appropriate report each shift,   following up on completion of duties, assisting with direct resident care,   and monitor performance, including infection control practices. 

• Use of   effective assessment skills to determine change in resident medical   conditions, reaction to medications, and recognizes emergencies. Provides emergency care per current nursing   standards in an efficient manner. 

• Perform   skin assessments accordingly: new admits – by first night at SSQ, document on   Nursing Admission Assessment form and nurses’ notes; re-admits – by first   night at SSQ, document in nurses’ notes. 

• Pressure   Ulcers are handled accordingly: Night Shift Charge Nurse complete Pressure   Ulcer Sheet and continue documentation until resolved, if day/evening shift   has not already completed. 

• Document   weekly skin tears, ulcers, bruises, etc. on proper forms. 

• Ensure   orders for all skin treatments or initiate standing orders. 

• Respond   to resident needs/concerns timely. Respond to call bells and personal alarms when necessary. 

• Completes   physical rounds appropriately with each resident. 

• Analyze,   comprehend, implement, and document doctors’ orders efficiently. 

• Ensure   MAR’s are accurate in the event internet service is unavailable (Night Shift   Nurse). 

• Accurately   transcribe medical information gathered during resident visits in the nurses’   notes, 24 hour book, assessment forms, etc. 

• Document   condition changes and intervention methods in medical records. 

• Seek   additional medical assistance when needed. 

• Supervise   and/or administer medications and treatments to residents without error,   including PRN medications. 

• Narcotic   box and medication cart remain locked when not in use. 

• Monitor/request   supplies and medications when needed. Supplies are scanned appropriately when distributed to resident rooms.   

• Treatment   care remains stocked at all times. 

• Perform   narcotic drug counts per Summit Square policy. 

• Properly   signs for medication administration and audits prior charge nurse for errors.   

• Understand implications of resident’s rights   regarding medication, treatment decisions, and confidentiality. 

Attempt to correct staffing needs before   contacting Director of Health Services and/or Nursing Supervisor 

Notify Director of Health   Services of any CNA performance related issues. 

 Use the following nursing   equipment safely and effectively: blood pressure cuff, thermometer, oxygen   systems, alarm systems, mechanical lifts, etc. 

 Communicate clearly and   concisely when interacting with physicians, nurses, staff members, residents   and others regarding nursing care needs. 

 Notify physician and POA   with change in conditions or incidents such as falls, skin tears, and   medication changes. 

  Communicate timely with   Director of Health Services regarding the following: medical issues, resident   care issues, resident admission to hospital, resident death, etc. 

 Notify Executive Director   of any resident deaths and/or admission to hospital. 

 Manage time effectively to   minimize overtime. 

 Maintain clean, organized   and orderly work areas. 

  Maintain any appropriate   licensure requirements as required by company policies, Federal/State   Regulations and/or outlined above in the qualifications section. 

 Adhere to all company   policies and procedures. 

Attend all in-services,   training and meetings as required by company policies and Federal/State   Regulations. 

  Demonstrate a commitment   to safety by following safety rules and guidelines; follow good housekeeping   practices, take proper care of equipment and perform job duties and   responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner. Uses chemicals safely and   appropriately. 

   Demonstrate dependability,   reliability and punctuality. Report to   work when schedule, ready to work. 

  Supervise Private Duty,   Companion Sitters to ensure safety of residents and staff and gather   information that ensures continuity of care. 

Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

     

• Must have current Registered Nurse   or Licensed Practical Nurse license through Virginia Board of Nursing. 

• Must have or be willing to obtain   CPR Certification. 

• Strong written and verbal   communication skills. 

• Ability to work with confidential   information and maintain its integrity. 

• Ability to multi-task while   maintaining attention to detail and have good organizational skills. 

• Ability to work in stressful   environment and deal with medical emergency situations. 

• Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach to   engaging with all individuals.
