Position Summary
The Instrument Service Technician provides in-house support for all aspects of the Instrumentation and Automation sales and service business unit. Responsibilities include assembling and reconfiguring Honeywell SmartLine inventory to meet customer order requirements, as well as troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of instrumentation equipment. This role requires a strong technical background, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service and support to both internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide the highest level of customer service while supporting the Instrumentation and Automation service and repair business, as well as other business units as needed.
- Perform inbound repair evaluations, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and completion of certification reports and certificates.
- Enter and update orders in the ERP system (Prophet 21) and maintain related technical documentation.
- Assemble, configure, and calibrate Value Added Model (VAM) orders.
- Maintain tools and equipment in clean, serviceable condition and ensure all calibrations are current.
- Maintain a professional and organized work environment, ensuring cleanliness and order throughout assigned areas in the shop and warehouse.
- Provide training and mentorship to new hires as required.
- Participate in cross-training to support other value-added activities within the department.

Position Requirements
- High school diploma, trade school, or equivalent required.
- Two years of formal training or a minimum of five years of equivalent experience in industrial instrumentation, including level, pressure, temperature, and flow measurements, as well as process control, burner management, and data acquisition.
- Strong understanding of calibration and testing procedures using pressure, vacuum, and temperature calibration equipment.
- Proficiency with general electronics test equipment such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, Hi-Pot testers, and environmental chambers.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, product specifications, and technical manuals.
- Capable of evaluating product failures and preparing written or verbal failure analysis reports and repair cost estimates.
- Computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Windows, email, word processing, spreadsheets, and order management systems. Prophet 21 experience is a plus.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with team members, customers, vendors, and sales personnel.
- Willingness to cross-train and assist in other value-added activities as needed.
Cross-Training Opportunities

- Process instrumentation (controllers and recorders)
- Configuration, calibration, and related hardware/software tools
- TIG welding of capillary connections
- Filling diaphragm seal and capillary assemblies
- High-pressure leak testing and valve bubble testing
- Positive Material Identification (PMI) testing

Physical Requirements
- May involve bending and lifting up to 45 pounds without mechanical assistance.
- Frequent use of hands to inspect, repair, and assemble parts and equipment.
- Standing and walking for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).
