Are you a bilingual professional with a strong technical background and a passion for international standards? APA - The Engineered Wood Association is hiring a JAS Quality Analyst to support the certification of engineered wood products under the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS). This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a detail-oriented, cross-cultural environment and wants to contribute to the global quality assurance of structural wood products.
What You Will Do
As the JAS Quality Analyst, you will be APA's primary liaison with Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), ensuring our member's products meet rigorous Japanese standards. You will lead certification assessments, support product approvals, and contribute to the development of international standards.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Support APA's role as a Registered Overseas Certification Body with Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Foresty and Fisheries (MAFF)
- Translate and interpret JAS standards
- Assist with product approvals and certification assessments
- Review audit reports, mill documentation, and lab results for compliance
- Participate in JAS revision processes and technical committee meetings
- Provide training to APA staff and mill personnel
- Collaborate with auditors and industry stakeholders on sampling and verification
Qualifications
- Native-level fluency in Japanese (oral and written)
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or manufacturing field
- 2 + years of experience in the wood products industry or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of engineered wood products (e.g., plywood, OSB, glulam, LVL)
- Familiarity with international quality standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to interpret scientific, technical and legal documents
- Strong mathematical skills (algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics)
- Valid driver's license and passport; ability to travel domestically and internationally

Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary range of $67,300 to $100,800 (USD), $93,500 to $140,000 (CAD) annually; commensurate with experience
