School Crossing Guard - Part time

SUMMARY
Ensures the safety of students crossing streets by stopping and controlling traffic and providing instructions on safe crossing procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as general illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. 

· Traffic control: Stop vehicular traffic to allow pedestrians, especially children, to cross streets safely at designated intersections.

· Pedestrian safety: Guide and escort children across streets and instruct them on proper safety precautions for crossing roads.

· Rule enforcement: Ensure children and cyclists use designated crosswalks and follow street crossing rules.

· Hazard monitoring: Observe traffic and the surrounding environment for potential dangers and report unsafe conditions to the proper authorities.

· Emergency response: Act quickly in emergencies or during periods of heavy traffic to maintain safety.

· Reporting: Report license plate numbers of vehicles that disregard traffic laws, as directed by policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required knowledge, skills, and attributes:

· Understanding of traffic laws and public safety

· Ability to communicate clearly and firmly with drivers and children

· Keen powers of observation to anticipate and react to potential risks

· Ability to think and act quickly and make sound judgments, especially in emergencies

· Ability to be firm but courteous with the public and maintain a professional demeanor

· Punctuality and reliability are essential

· Must be able to work specific hours in the morning and afternoon


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High-school diploma/GED


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid driver’s license.
