The Wooten Company’s Greenville, NC office is seeking a team-focused, innovative Civil Project Engineer with strong technical experience to join our expanding Civil & Environmental Team. 


Who are you? The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated civil engineer with a strong background in successfully completing water, wastewater and / or stormwater projects for local governments and private clients. You have been a licensed Professional Engineer for at least 3 years. You are responsible, work well with a team and communicate well with people of varying backgrounds and experiences. You are hungry to learn and grow professionally in your field.


What will you be doing? Candidates can expect to work with utility owners, such as local regional water systems, utility authorities, consultants and permitting agencies in the delivery of water, sewer and stormwater services. The person in this role can make a significant community impact by supporting our clients as they carry out their mission to efficiently own, operate, and maintain public utilities on behalf of their customers / residents. Candidates can expect to be continually challenged to manage design projects (i.e., develop scopes, budgets, maintain client relationships, QA/QC, and design functions, etc.) and use the right mix of advanced technology and historically successful measures, while working within the financial boundaries of the project stakeholders.  


Who will you be working with? The Project Engineer can expect cross functional collaboration across all teams and specialties, providing an opportunity to interact with The Wooten Company colleagues in both North and South Carolina. Additionally, this person will regularly work with local government and water & sewer authorities, as well as local and state agencies. For the right person with a desire to grow professionally, this role is a good opportunity to obtain a depth and breadth of civil engineering ability and to contribute to the growing presence of TWC in the North Carolina region. 


Where will you be working? Our Greenville office is located in the Uptown Greenville area, just south of the Tar River nestled amongst many restaurants and breweries, and just around the corner from East Carolina University’s Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Within a quick 30-minute drive to the town of Washington, just under an hour to New Bern, or a couple of hours to Emerald Isle and Wilmington, beach lovers can explore lovely coastal vistas on an easy weekend trip. The healthcare community is one of the largest in North Carolina, and many newly renovated restaurants and nightclubs alongside the bustling arts and entertainment hub in Uptown Greenville, as well as a plethora of outdoor recreational opportunities in the local parks and along the Tar River, allow residents a wide variety of options for everyone to enjoy.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Strong working knowledge of project competency including preliminary engineering reports, new and rehabilitation designs, construction documents and technical specifications, project advertisement, bidding, and contracting. 
  • Experience with design of water distribution systems and / or sanitary sewer collection. 
  • Familiarity with federal, state and local agency regulations, primarily concerning municipal water and wastewater projects. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • B.S. Civil/ Environmental Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Consulting Engineering experience (preferred). 
  • NC licensed Professional Engineer, or the ability to transfer within 1 year. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (365) applications (Outlook, Excel, Word) and knowledge of AutoCAD – Civil3D.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong experience with engineering concepts, design, and construction administration and observation water, sewer, and stormwater utility projects. 
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local agency regulations. 
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling (preferred). 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present to clients and plan/ conduct meetings. 
  • Familiarity with construction administration of municipal utility projects.
