JOB SUMMARY: Metro Engineering Solutions, LLC (“MES”) is looking for a Designer to join our team! MES is a multifaceted utility and telecommunications engineering firm serving clients throughout the Midwest. The Designer is responsible for working effectively in a variety of computer systems and software applications while providing power utility clients with design services and solutions needed to accurately construct OH/UG services. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand overhead distribution and specifications of our client’s needs to develop the appropriate design solution(s).
  • Collaborate with prospective, residential, and commercial customers if needed on behalf of client if requested.
  • Participates in job specific meetings with client, customer, or project team.
  • Conduct appropriate field visits and support scoping of jobs in compliance with design standards. 
  • Select and interpret data, on a map-based platform such as ESRI/Google Earth.
  • Advise customers and other contractors of standards relating to new and/or upgraded service requirements for secondary.
  • Write construction orders for both overhead/underground secondary jobs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Project Manager.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
  • Primarily work in an office setting.
  • Ability to travel and/or work in the field as needed.

Requirements

 

  • High School diploma and/or equivalent.
  • Associates degree in technical or design field preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in electrical utility planning role is preferred. 
  • Experience performing overhead/underground design services are preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with internal/external personnel.
