JOB SUMMARY
The Bed Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and preparing hospital beds and related
patient care equipment to ensure they are safe, clean, and fully functional. This role plays a critical part
in supporting patient care by ensuring equipment reliability and availability in compliance with
healthcare standards.
Job Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Duties Include:
- Inspect and troubleshoot hospital beds and related equipment for mechanical, electrical, and
structural issues.
- Perform routine maintenance, adjustments, and repairs as needed to ensure optimal
functionality.
- Replace or repair broken or worn components such as motors, casters, or side rails.
- Ensure beds are properly assembled, operational, and ready for patient use.
- Assist with the installation or removal of specialty beds and accessories as required.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Report recurring issues, unsafe equipment, or recommendations for replacement to the
appropriate supervisor.
- Track and manage inventory of spare parts and tools.
- Work collaboratively with clinical staff to address urgent bed-related needs.
- Respond promptly to service requests and ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, infection control policies, and manufacturer guidelines during
maintenance and repairs.
- Stay up-to-date on hospital policies and industry standards related to medical equipment.
Education, Experience and Skill Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and electrical components.
- Experience with maintenance and repair of medical equipment or similar devices is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Working Relationships:
Individual will maintain good personal relationships with fellow workers, nursing and medical staff, vendors, manufacturers, and the general public. May coordinate and deliver technical in-service education sessions to users as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Generally good working conditions. Possible hazards include exposure to electrical shock, ionizing
radiation, chemicals and chemical fumes, high-pressure air, infectious disease, and various other hazards
associated with biomedical engineering work. Protective clothing and safe work practices are required.
