Swickard Auto Group, a leading automotive organization in the Bay Area known for hospitality-driven operations and disciplined performance, is seeking an experienced General Sales Manager (GSM) for one of our high-volume import dealerships in the Bay Area.
This is a confidential leadership opportunity for a steady, process-focused operator who knows how to drive volume, grow people, and deliver a premium guest experience without high-pressure tactics.
Responsibilities:
- Total variable operations across new, pre-owned, digital retail, internet/BDC, and F&I partnerships.
- Daily sales execution built on appointment preparation, consistent communication, and accountable follow-through.
- Sales management development—coaching desk managers, internet leaders, and advisors toward predictable, repeatable performance.
- Cross-department partnership with service and parts to keep the guest experience smooth from hand-off to delivery.
- Inventory leadership: trade appraisals, aging control, pricing, and strategic management of new-car allocation and used-car acquisition.
- Key performance outcomes: volume, front/back gross performance, digital close rates, lead response times, and CSI/NPS.
- Brand reputation & market presence, aligned with Swickard’s commitment to integrity, community, and long-term relationships.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrates a high “HQ” (Hospitality Quotient) consisting of kindness & optimism, intellectual curiosity, work ethic, empathy, self-awareness, and integrity.
- Proven success as a GSM or senior desk manager in a high-volume import or domestic store.
- A leadership approach rooted in clarity, preparation, and steady accountability.
- Ability to build strong teams—coaching managers and advisors to operate with discipline and consistency.
- Deep experience with modern digital retail, CRM utilization, appointment setting, and structured follow-up processes.
- Strong operational instincts around inventory, pricing, and market dynamics.
- A guest-first mindset that aligns with Swickard’s hospitality-first culture.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting: The majority of the workday is spent sitting at a desk, using a computer and phone.
- Standing and Walking: There may be times when the general sales manager needs to stand, walk around the dealership, or attend meetings.
- Reaching and Bending: The manager may need to reach for files, supplies, or equipment.
- Lifting: Occasionally, there might be a need to lift or move documents, supplies, or equipment.
