POSITION TITLE: Lifeguard
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt | Part-Time or Full- Time
REPORTS TO: Aquatics Director
POSITION SCOPE:
The primary responsibility as a lifeguard is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. This person will need to be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills. Lifeguards must be able to enforce pool policies and be able to communicate effectively why policies are in place. Lifeguards are part of the CCBA’s first aid team.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
· Current Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certification required.
ABILITY TO:
· Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies through knowledge and application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
· Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
· Administers aid in accordance with certification standards.
· Actively guard and scan the pool area; refrain from socializing or anything else that is distracting.
· Communicate and enforce all CCBA pool policies and rules in a personable and professional manner.
· Dress and appearance are consistent with CCBA standards including wearing your guard shirt, whistle, fanny pack, and tube while on duty.
· Conduct pool inspections and complete pool chemical logs and report imbalances or concerns to the supervisor.
· Adjust chemical settings only if trained to do so.
· Sets up pool in accordance with the schedule and number of participants.
· Record daily participation numbers and complete daily cleaning assignments.
· Attempts to find substitute lifeguard coverage as needed.
· May assist with swim lesson instruction under the supervision of a certified water safety instructor.
· Attend and participate in in-service training and meetings.
· Provide a welcoming environment for all patrons.
· Document any incidents and/or injuries and notify supervisor immediately.
· Maintain communication with other Aquatic Team members and your supervisors.
· Communicate clear and concise information as needed to patrons, emergency medical service personnel and police services.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Arrive prepared and on time for work.
· Able to assess a situation and make an informed decision independently.
· Ability to work as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff and management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift people in distress of varying weights.
· Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time.
