Assistant General Manager
Job Type
Part-time
Description

Ultimate Ninjas Academy Deerfield is looking for a fun, high-energy Assistant General Manager to help bring the floor to life at our ninja fitness gym for kids in Deerfield, IL. In this part-time, on-site, hourly role, you'll supervise coaches, keep the obstacle course area safe and exciting, and make every family who walks through our doors feel welcome. We're looking for someone genuinely engaging and adaptable — the kind of person kids light up around and parents trust immediately — who's ready to grow into more operational responsibility as they settle in.

Requirements

About Us

Ultimate Ninjas Academy Deerfield empowers kids to build strength, confidence, and resilience through movement and play. We offer dynamic obstacle course training that challenges and inspires children of various ages and skill levels, in a supportive, fun, and safety-conscious environment. We're more than a gym — we're a community where kids learn to move with purpose, gain lasting confidence, and discover their inner ninja.

The Role

The Assistant General Manager supervises coaches and staff on the gym floor, keeps the obstacle course area safe, and helps classes, open gym sessions, birthday parties, and events run smoothly. This is a hands-on, people-first role — great for someone with a fitness, coaching, education, or youth-development background who wants real leadership and customer service experience. It's an hourly, part-time position; if it's the right fit, there's room to take on more with us over time.

What You'll Do

  • Supervise coaches and staff on shift, keeping energy and safety standards high.
  • Monitor the obstacle course area and enforce safety protocols, responding promptly to any concerns.
  • Greet and check in participants; handle registration and waivers accurately.
  • Answer parent and guardian questions in person, by phone, and by email with warmth and professionalism.
  • Help keep classes, open gym, parties, and events running smoothly and on schedule.
  • Process payments using our POS systems — iClassPro (main) and Square.
  • Support facility cleanliness and equipment readiness during your shift.
  • Occasionally assist with scheduling or training tasks as needed (these are currently handled by our Owner/Operator).

What You Bring

  • A fun, engaging, high-energy, and adaptable personality.
  • Experience or background in fitness, coaching, physical education, youth development, or a customer-facing role — supervisory experience is a plus but not required.
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine ability to connect with kids, families, and staff.
  • A safety-first mindset and comfort working in an active, physical setting on and around the obstacle course.
  • Availability across a mix of weekday and weekend hours, with flexibility for special events.
  • Familiarity with iClassPro and/or Square is a plus, but not required — we'll train you. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain one) is also a plus.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires standing, walking, bending, and moving throughout the facility for extended periods, including spotting, assisting, and occasionally lifting or supporting children on course equipment, as well as lifting or moving course equipment and materials. Weight varies by task — potentially up to 20-30 pounds for equipment, and more when spotting or assisting a child, depending on their size. It's performed on-site at an active, moderately noisy indoor youth fitness facility.

Compensation & Schedule

Hourly, commensurate with experience, with additional hours available for the right person. We're a growing business and don't yet offer formal benefits, but perks like class and party discounts are available and can be discussed during your interview.

Our Hiring Process

Apply, then expect a brief phone/video call, an in-person interview at the academy, and possibly a working trial on the course before an offer. We aim to follow up within one week.
