Position Summary
The RN Unit Manager provides clinical leadership and oversight for an assigned resident care unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centered nursing care. This role supervises nursing staff, coordinates resident care, supports interdisciplinary collaboration, and serves as a mentor and resource for the nursing team. The Unit Manager plays a critical role in promoting clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, employee engagement, and positive resident outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the daily clinical operations of an assigned nursing unit while promoting exceptional resident care and quality outcomes.
- Complete comprehensive resident assessments upon admission, throughout the stay, and upon significant changes in condition.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians, residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team.
- Supervise, coach, mentor, and support Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and other nursing team members.
- Conduct daily clinical rounds to monitor resident condition, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Review clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate admissions, transfers, discharges, and resident care transitions.
- Promote infection prevention, resident safety, and compliance with CMS, state, and facility regulations.
- Assist with staffing coordination, scheduling adjustments, and coverage during staffing shortages.
- Investigate and resolve resident, family, and employee concerns while fostering positive relationships and exceptional customer service.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives, infection prevention activities, and interdisciplinary care conferences.
- Serve as Charge Nurse when needed and support the Director of Nursing with clinical operations, staff development, and performance improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Kentucky.
- Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
- One (1) to three (3) years of nursing experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or a related healthcare setting.
- Previous supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment, care planning, documentation, and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, coaching, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical records (EMR).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising sound clinical judgment and professionalism.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing and walking, bending, pushing, pulling, assisting residents with mobility, and extended periods of computer documentation.
Preferred Experience
- Leadership experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or post-acute care.
- Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, CMS regulations, Quality Measures, and survey readiness.
- Knowledge of infection prevention, QAPI, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing nursing staff.
- Strong understanding of staffing coordination, clinical documentation, and resident-centered care practices.
- Demonstrated ability to improve quality outcomes while fostering employee engagement and teamwork.
