Description
This position is responsible for supervising the operations and maintenance of the water distribution system.
- Oversees the installation, maintenance and repair of water mains, services, and other system components; coordinates daily work priorities
- Establishes schedules and methods the installation, maintenance, repair and monitoring of the water distribution system.
- Responds to customer complaints regarding water quality and pressure; coordinates mitigation and repair activities.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of parts, supplies, tools, and equipment to safely and efficiently perform work tasks in the water distribution system.
- Recommends and assists in the implementation of department goals and objectives.
- Participates in the selection of staff; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; disciplines personnel.
- Participates in budget preparations; monitors and controls expenditures.
- Reviews work order to ensure the accuracy of data and the satisfactory completion of work.
- Coordinates work with outside contractors.
- Reviews employee leave requests.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies.
- Performs related duties.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system.
- Knowledge of the operation of a variety of job-related tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of related state and federal regulations.
- Knowledge of budget development and management principles.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state law and city policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain an appropriate state-certified license for water or wastewater treatment or distribution as appropriate.
