Summary
The machinist is responsible for effective and efficient operation of EDM, CNC and other machines on a continuous basis including identification and resolution of issues to maintain production output requirements of the business unit.
Responsibilities
- Set Up and operates EDM/CNC machines and other related equipment where programs, fixtures, and methods have been developed.
- Makes all edits and adjustments as required to produce parts to work orders/blueprint specifications/sketches.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of feeds and speeds and a working knowledge of cutting tools and their application.
- Inspects work as required for all dimensional features as required.
- Produces quality and quantity of work in accordance with Company requirements.
- Responsible for accurately completing paperwork relating to counts, scrap, time, etc.
- Performs duties always exercising good machining practices.
- Maintains area, equipment, and tooling in a neat, orderly condition including operator maintenance sheets.
- Trains, guides, and assists other employees as required.
- Taking a proactive approach to solving process or system related problems and coordinating with other team members/departments when necessary for resolution of problems
- Comply with OSHA, health, safety, and environment requirements.
- May be assigned to carry out tasks, not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description in support of department objectives and to develop individual’s skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment
- 2+ years of experience working with EDM, CNC, CMM or related equipment
- Strong listening and communication skills; verbal and written skills
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong understanding of Lean/Continuous Improvement Methodologies
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated self-starter
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Manufacturing ERPs (Job Boss)
Physical Requirements
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The worker may be required to move, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and/or complete repetitive motions during course of work.
Visual Requirements
The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arms reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
Environmental Conditions
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
The worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
