Position Summary:
Steinway & Sons is seeking an experienced Supervisor for our Maintenance Department at our factory location. This role is responsible for day-to-day supervision of union maintenance personnel, ensuring safe, reliable operation of production machinery and facility systems. This role is hands-on, highly visible on the production floor, and critical to maintaining uptime, safety, and regulatory compliance in a high-profile automated manufacturing environment.
Main Responsibilities:
· Oversee upkeep and maintenance needs of the office and factory space
· Supervise maintenance activities supporting automated production equipment, CNC machinery, robotics, dust collection, and finishing operations
· Act as first responder to equipment breakdowns; troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, PLC, and robotic issues
· Create and implement preventative maintenance schedules for machinery and equipment. Designate work assignments to internal maintenance and external contractors and ensure jobs are completed to high standards and that all equipment and tools are well maintained to meet production needs.
· Proactively seeks out waste of resources and initiates actions to improve methods and reduce costs.
· Assign daily work and emergency repairs based off facilities needs
· Ensures that health and safety policies are complied with, through thorough safety trainings for all employees and conducting site safety assessments to identify all safety hazards.
· Monitor equipment and parts inventory, working with vendors to manage orders, pricing, and services.
· Ensures involvement of the Maintenance Department to support ongoing capital projects.
· Track expenses and oversee the budget for maintenance.
· Deliver strong operational performance by ensuring compliance with regulatory agency standards and programs (local, city, and state). Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files related to facilities inspections and compliance reporting.
· Assists in the selection of new hires as well as on going coaching, development, and discipline of current union maintenance staff.
Qualifications, education and experience:
· At least 5 years of industrial maintenance experience and at least 2 years of supervisory experience
· Able to analyze, plan and solve problems
· Able to read prints and drawings and have solid math and mechanical aptitude
· Familiar with CMMS systems, Robotics ( Fanuc / ABB ) and PLC’s ( Allen Bradley / Siemens )
· Able to communicate effectively with diverse groups
· Must have good working knowledge of OSHA regulations and practices
· Must have broad experience and familiarity with building systems (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic/pneumatic, fire safety)
· Must have or be able to acquire required certificates of fitness from FDNY to maintain the plant
· Must be able to maintain all permits to operate equipment and air permits with all government agencies (DEP, DEC, EPA)
The estimated annualized base salary range for this role is $80,000-$95,000. Compensation will vary based on skills and experience. This role also offers re-location assistance if applicable.
