Position Summary

Project Engineer – Traffic Engineering would provide project engineering tasks on traffic and transportation projects. This would include tasks for traffic studies, traffic analysis, and traffic design projects. This position offers the opportunity to develop technical problem-solving and leadership skills, supporting your long-term career goals. The experience gained through exposure to each phase of project development will enhance your skills as you transition into a leadership role for traffic engineering.

In this role, the Project Engineer - Traffic Engineering will assist in:

· Completing tasks for traffic data collection, traffic forecasting, capacity analysis, and report writing.

· Completing tasks for traffic signal design, signage, pavement markings, ITS, lighting, plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Traffic Studies & Traffic Design – under supervision of a Traffic Project Manager (Professional Engineer):

· Coordinate with clients to determine project needs.

· Complete on-site investigation of roadway assets and develop recommendations for improvements.

· Develop traffic forecasting volume exhibits, traffic capacity analysis models, crash data assessments, and written reports.

· Develop plans for traffic design projects using AutoCAD and MicroStation.

· Assist in the preparation of specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.

· Complete quality control reviews of traffic studies, construction plans, design calculations, and other contract documents.

· Coordinate with contractors, utility companies, and other stakeholders to discuss studies, plans, specifications, and schedules.

· Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects. 

Requirements

  

Education and/or Experience

· A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET accredited college or university with an emphasis on traffic applications.

· Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.

· Demonstrated ability to learn and apply civil engineering fundaments to real-world projects with an emphasis on traffic applications.

· Ability to learn and interpret INDOT Design Manual and Standard Specifications. 

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Ability to learn traffic engineering software and resources such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCM and HCS, Sidra, Miovision data collection, and ITE trip generation.

· Ability to learn design software and resources such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, SignCAD, and GuideSIGN.

Licenses, Certifications: 

· If an employee plans to use their own vehicle in the scope of their employment with Shrewsberry, they will be required to provide proof of insurance and a driver’s license.

Preferred Experience

· Zero (0) to five (5) years of experience.

· Ability to become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) within four (4) years.
