Now Hiring: Director of Acquisitions
The Director of Acquisitions leads M.S. Rau’s strategic acquisition efforts across fine art, antiques, jewelry, and other luxury collectibles. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is instrumental in shaping the future of our world-class inventory and ensuring that every acquisition reflects the highest standards of rarity, provenance, and excellence.

The Director of Acquisitions will identify, evaluate, negotiate, and secure exceptional works that align with M.S. Rau’s long-term growth strategy and legacy of distinction.
Your Role Will Include
- Developing and implementing acquisition strategies aligned with company goals
- Identifying and evaluating high-value opportunities across fine art, antiques, jewelry, and luxury collectibles
- Forecasting market trends and positioning M.S. Rau to capitalize on emerging demand
- Building and maintaining trusted relationships with collectors, dealers, consignors, estates, advisors, and galleries
- Representing M.S. Rau at auctions, fairs, private sales, and industry events worldwide
- Cultivating a strong pipeline of acquisition opportunities through networking, research, and outreach
- Leading due diligence including provenance, valuation, authentication, and condition review
- Assessing financial, historical, and market data to inform strategic acquisition decisions
- Coordinating with internal specialists and external experts to ensure excellence and integrity in every acquisition
- Leading negotiations with sellers, intermediaries, and agents to secure optimal outcomes
- Ensuring acquisition terms meet company standards for quality, margin, and risk
- Managing documentation and collaborating with legal and finance teams for seamless transaction completion
- Communicating acquisition opportunities, strategy, and outcomes directly with senior leadership
- Partnering cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Operations to optimize post-acquisition success
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree required in Art History, Business, Finance, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in acquisitions, art markets, luxury goods, or related fields
- Proven track record of successful high-value acquisitions and strong industry reputation
- Established global network of collectors, dealers, auction houses, and advisors
- Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and strategic planning skills
- Deep working knowledge of valuation principles, provenance standards, and demonstrated market demand
- Highly self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to manage complex transactions in a fast-paced environment
- Polished communication skills and professional presence representing a world-class luxury brand

Compensation, Work Schedule & Travel
- Compensation will be comprised of a very competitive salary with bonus potential based on performance goals
- Hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. but flexibility is required
- Occasional evening and Saturday work required based on auctions and events
- Out-of-town overnight travel required to trade shows, auction houses, private collections, and client homes
