Job Summary
Mazzetti is seeking seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer/Designer based on the San Francisco Bay area to join our healthcare practice to contribute fully to the analysis, design and documentation of mechanical/HVAC systems for large and complex healthcare projects. Engineers in this role take ownership of system design from concept through construction, working collaboratively with senior engineers, architects, and multidisciplinary teams.
You will be part of Mazzetti’s Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Consulting Engineering Practice- a multidisciplinary team dedicated to designing high-performance, resilient, and sustainable solutions for the built environment. With a strong emphasis on healthcare and infrastructure projects, our practice blends technical rigor with a collaborative, client-centered approach to deliver exceptional, future-ready outcomes.
Core Responsibilities
Mechanical System Design & Technical Development
- Drafting and designing mechanical plans, including equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, and schedules.
- Creating mechanical drawing packages that may include schematics, details, control diagrams, and airflow tables.
- Using computer-assisted engineering and design tools (including Revit) to support system design and documentation.
- Supporting mechanical system calculations and analysis under the direction of senior engineering staff.
Documentation & Specification
- Preparing high-quality mechanical system drawings and documentation for construction.
- Assisting in the development of technical narratives, schedules, and documentation for project deliverables.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Working closely with internal MEP team members to ensure cohesive, coordinated design solutions.
- Incorporating feedback from architects, structural engineers, and sustainability specialists.
- Demonstrating a team-first approach and openness to multidisciplinary collaboration.
Field Observation & Construction Support
- Conducting occasional site visits to observe mechanical installations and verify conformance with design intent.
- Supporting responses to submittals and RFIs with guidance from senior team members.
Work Location: This is a hybrid position based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
Travel Requirements: Occasional local travel to project sites.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 4–6 years of experience in mechanical/HVAC design for buildings
- Experience working on healthcare, laboratory, or other complex building types
- Proficiency with Revit with production-level experience
- Solid understanding of HVAC system engineering design fundamentals
- Familiarity with codes, standards, and industry best practices
- Ability to work independently while collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software used for mechanical system drafting and modeling.
- Ability to create drawing packages and documentation according to project standards.
- Familiarity with mechanical codes, standards, and best practices (experience with healthcare preferred but not required).
Preferred
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California (or eligible).

Compensation: The typical salary range for a Mechanical Engineer/Designer is $100,000 - $140,000. We are committed to equitable pay and will evaluate final compensation based on relevant experience and skills in alignment with internal equity and market data.
