Who we want:
As the Community Voice & Family Engagement Manager, you will strengthen the role of families and community members across United Way for Greater Austin’s coalition network. You will collaborate closely with coalition and program leaders to design and sustain engagement strategies that elevate lived experience in planning, decision-making, and implementation.
In this role, you’ll serve as a strategic partner and facilitator—supporting advisory groups, family consultants, focus groups, and listening sessions to ensure community insight meaningfully shapes our work. You will recruit and nurture parents, caregivers, and community members with lived experience, helping them grow as leaders and fully participate in coalition and programmatic activities.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about uplifting caregiver voices, building systems that center community wisdom, and expanding opportunities for families and partner organizations in the Greater Austin area. What you’ll do:
- Lead and support family and community engagement efforts across United Way for Greater Austin’s coalitions and initiatives.
- Design, facilitate, and sustain advisory structures such as Family Advisory Councils and lived-experience advisory groups; recruit and support Family Engagement Consultants; and coordinate the Family Engagement Collective as a space for learning and connection.
- Work in close partnership with coalition leads and program leaders, you will co-build and implement engagement strategies that center lived experience in planning, decision making, and systems improvement.
- Design and facilitate focus groups, listening sessions, and community conversations, synthesize qualitative insights into actionable recommendations; and support the development of replicable community voice systems and tools.
- Steward equitable engagement practices, support ethical community compensation, and ensure family voice meaningfully informs strategy, implementation, and evaluation across the organization.
- Support data tracking to meet program outcomes and goals.
- Manage and support the implementation of community voice systems; including compensation workflows, participation tracking, and reporting and ensure accuracy of compensation thresholds in alignment with the organization’s community voice philosophy.
- Support grant reporting for the program area to include narrative drafting, client stories, and budget information as appropriate.
What you’ll bring:
- At least 2 years of experience working in community engagement, nonprofit, social services, or other family centered fields
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Experience with building community relationships, convening workshops, and working with families on community issues
- Understanding and respect for the diversity of economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds and situations
- Experience with records management and handling confidential information
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong time management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals across diverse backgrounds
- Ability to work in cross functional, fast paced work environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work flexible hours depending on the availability and needs of families
