POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Programs Archery, Arts Crafts, Mountain Bike, Lifeguard, Native American, Nature and Low/High Ropes Staff at YMCA Camp Arbolado creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe participant conditions in the assigned activity area in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Support the implementation of the YMCA Mission and the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

2. Visually inspect the Archery, Arts Craft, Mountain Bikes, Native American, Nature Hike and High and Low Ropes Program areas (depending on daily activity assignment) for any unnatural or potentially dangerous obstacles. These could include glass, exposed roots, stumps, rocks, or dead branches on the ground. Make sure the ground offers safe and firm footing.

3. Maintains active surveillance of the assigned activity areas.

4. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; completes related reports as required.

5. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.

6. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the assigned activity area.

7. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.

8. Maintains accurate records daily as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.

9. Performs daily equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed during setup and take-down of each activity area.

10. Provide recommendations and concerns to the supervisory camp staff regarding the performances of the Volunteer Staff and/or Kids.

11. Participate in all required specialist training for Program activity areas.

12. Support any kitchen and housekeeping tasks, as needed.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age of 18.

• Current Certifications.

· Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.

• Ability to maintain specialist-level physical and mental readiness

• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the camp community.

Salary Description
$17.00-$18.00 per hour
