R&D Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

/ The R&D Technician works on research and development activities for organizational products and services.  


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

/ Assists and participates in the testing, start-up, and operation of specialty alloy melting, casting, and atomization equipment. 

/ Experience in operating and maintaining pilot-scale / R&D metal melting or high-temperature equipment. 

/ Assists R&D engineering in experimentation and toll melting and powder atomization trials. 

/ Troubleshoots subsystem components associated with the melting equipment (e.g., closed water-cooling systems, high voltage, high current electric power systems and controls). 

/ Establish and adhere to safe operating procedures; develops and documents best practices. 

/ Monitors the melting process and adjusts the process conditions to maintain the process within its operating parameters. 

/ Records and communicates data collected from experiments. The individual should have a deep understanding of working safely in an industrial environment. 

/ The work requires use of machine tools (power and hand tools). 

/ Uses material handling equipment (forklift, man-lift, overhead and bridge cranes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

/ Knowledge of manufacturing software and Word Processing software. 

/ Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures, short correspondence, and memos.

/ Ability to write simple correspondence. 

/ Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 

/ Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 

/ Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

/ Ability to work at heights while wearing a fall harness.


Education and Experience:

/ Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school with 2-3 yrs. of alloy melting experience preferred. – Not required

Physical Demands:

/ The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, hear and talk.  

/ The employee is frequently required to use hands.  

/ The employee occasionally will be required to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.  

/ The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

/ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.   

/ The work environment is a manufacturing setting. 

/ This position may be required to work long hours extending into the weekends on some occasions. 

/ May need to travel for short or extended trips as needed. 

/ Must be able and willing to travel internationally.

Salary Description
$25 - $35 per hour based on experience
