Position Summary:

The Director of HR is a critical role with human resources in support of the Company’s mission to provide affordable and exceptional ABA services. This position demands a highly responsive, detail-oriented HR leader who can manage the complexities of a clinical workforce, ensuring compliance, employee engagement, and operational excellence. The Director will be expected to proactively address employee relations, credentialing, compliance with HIPAA and labor laws, and retention challenges. This role requires strong situational awareness, the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, and the capacity to create scalable systems that maintain high standards amid growth and change.


Key HR responsibilities include collaborating with recruitment pipelines for RBTs, BCBAs, and administrative staff; managing onboarding and credential verification; overseeing performance and engagement; and swiftly resolving employee issues. The Director will be a trusted resource and advisor to leadership and staff, ensuring consistency, fairness, and clarity in all people-related matters.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Management

  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies in coordination with the recruiting team to attract high-quality talent, particularly in ABA therapy roles (BCBAs, RBTs, and administrative staff).
  • Management of retention efforts tailored to clinical roles (RBTs, BCBAs) and support staff in correlation with Clinical & Operational leadership
  • Manage onboarding, credentialing, background checks, and compliance specific to behavioral health and HIPAA regulations
  • Analyze workforce data to identify turnover trends and develop targeted retention strategies
  • Collaborate with recruiting and clinical leadership to ensure staffing meets organizational needs
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies to attract high-quality talent, particularly in ABA therapy roles (BCBAs, RBTs, and administrative staff).

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local labor laws including HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, OSHA
  • Ensure credentialing processes are streamlined and maintain accurate employee records and certifications
  • Coordinate employee file audits and prepare documentation for internal and external regulatory reviews
  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues, applying consistent disciplinary practices
  • Ensure ABA regulatory compliance by monitoring staff credentialing (RBT, BCBA, supervision ratios), maintaining audit-ready personnel files, tracking training requirements, and partnering with clinical leadership to uphold BACB, payer, and state-specific standards. 

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and management on HR policies and conflict resolution
  • Develop programs to enhance employee engagement, recognition, and professional growth
  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture consistent with ABA therapy values and ethics

Performance Management & Training

  • Ensure timely performance evaluations are aligned with clinical and operational goals
  • Support leadership in employee development and coaching initiatives
  • Oversee compliance with all mandatory training requirements (e.g., HIPAA, safety, ethics, CPR, and crisis intervention), ensuring training programs are delegated to and coordinated by the Training Coordinator.

HR Operations & Systems Management

  • Manage current platforms for accurate tracking of employee data, certifications, and compliance deadlines
  • Update and maintain the employee handbook and HR policies in line with changing laws and organizational needs
  • Oversee benefits administration, leave management, and payroll coordination with finance.
  • Provide payroll administration support by managing timekeeping accuracy, auditing hours against approved schedules, coordinating with finance/payroll vendors, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring timely and compliant wage processing.

Leadership & Strategic Partnership

  • Participate as a member of the leadership team to align HR strategy with organizational objectives
  • Provide guidance on workforce planning, organizational development, and change management

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment laws, labor laws, healthcare compliance, and credentialing relevant to ABA or behavioral health settings
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and deliver timely resolutions
  • Experience with HR technology platforms
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) best practices within healthcare
  • Ability to build trust and credibility at all levels of the organization

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field required
  • Minimum 5 years progressive HR experience, including 3+ years in healthcare or behavioral health
  • Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) preferred
  • Experience with ABA therapy providers or similar clinical organizations preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in HR, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline
  • Professional HR certification (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent)
  • Direct experience with ABA therapy providers or similar clinical behavioral health organizations
  • Familiarity with clinical credentialing platforms and compliance audit processes
