The Tailwind Group Summer Intern Program allows students or recent grads to gain real world experience in their area of interest and understand its function within the student housing industry - all while making a true impact on our business. 

This internship term will run from May 25th - August 14th and will include:

The Position: The Investment Management Intern is primarily responsible for supporting the Investment Management Department across the full investment real estate investment lifecycle and contributing to the growth of the Tailwind Group portfolio. A successful Investment Management Intern will effectively communicate across the three teams within the department (Acquisitions, Asset Management, and Capital Markets), and remain organized while supporting multiple projects and initiatives.


This is an in-office position working out of our Excelsior, MN, corporate office. The pay rate for this position is $16-18/hr.


Responsibilities & Duties 

  • Support deal screening and market research for new acquisition opportunities, including basic financial analysis.
  • Assist with underwriting and model updates across acquisitions and asset management scenarios.
  • Participate in due diligence support, including data organization, site visit preparation, and report review.
  • Help prepare investment committee and internal reporting materials.
  • Support capital markets activities, including lender tracking, debt assumptions, and financing analysis.
  • Assist with portfolio and asset-level performance reporting, budgets, and reforecasts.
  • Gain exposure to debt and equity strategies, including refinances and recapitalizations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with acquisitions, asset management, capital markets, and operations.
  • Develop a working understanding of how investment decisions translate into ongoing asset performance.
  • Participate in a full-cycle real estate investment capstone introduced at the start of the internship and presented in the final week, requiring analysis across Acquisitions, Capital Markets, and Asset Management, culminating in an investment recommendation presentation to department leadership.
  • Perform all other duties as requested by department leadership.
Requirements

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent and working towards a Degree in Finance, Real Estate, or related field.
  • Must be a rising senior or a recent graduate at time of internship.
  • An interest in investment banking and/or in-house real estate investing and acquisitions.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, demonstrated ability to perform a quantitative and qualitative analysis of assets using financial modeling techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively define and resolve problems that balance multiple needs and interests.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to present ideas, instructions, and information effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • General understanding of financial statements (e.g. balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement). 
  • A passion for all things real estate, an agility and ability to adapt to changing and ambiguous situations, and a general hunger for more.
