Opportunity:
VSO is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to support and improve enterprise storage services in a production environment. This role is hands-on and operations-focused: you’ll troubleshoot incidents, fulfill requests, execute maintenance, and keep storage and data protection services healthy, performant, and well-documented. You’ll follow established standards and escalate complex architecture decisions when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Storage & SAN Operations
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve storage-related incidents impacting performance, capacity, connectivity, and availability.
- Administer and support storage platforms in scope (e.g., NetApp, Pure, Infinidat, Nimble, VMware vSAN).
- Perform routine operational tasks: storage health checks, capacity management, performance trending, and remediation of common alerts.
- Execute approved storage changes such as provisioning, resizing, reclamation, and lifecycle tasks.
Datastore & Provisioning Management
- Fulfill requests for new or expanded storage, including: sizing, LUN/volume creation, mapping/presentation, validation, and documentation.
- Support datastore lifecycle tasks (expand/extend, cleanup, optimization, and standardization).
Backup / Restore & DR Support
- Support backup/restore operations and troubleshooting in coordination with documented procedures (job health, restore execution, replication status, restore testing).
- Assist with DR readiness activities such as restore validation, failover testing steps, and runbook execution as assigned.
Maintenance, Upgrades & Change Execution
- Participate in planned maintenance windows for storage and data protection platforms (firmware/OS upgrades, patches, configuration changes).
- Validate post-change system health and document outcomes.
Vendor Coordination & Hardware Support
- Open and manage vendor support cases: collect logs, perform initial triage, coordinate replacement actions, and document resolution.
- Support hardware lifecycle activities as required.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain and improve runbooks/KBs for provisioning, restore procedures, and operational standards.
- Identify recurring issues, propose operational improvements, and implement monitoring or process enhancements where appropriate.
- 3 - 5 years of relevant, professional experience
- Proficient with: NetApp, Pure, Infinidat, Nimble, VMware vSAN
- Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U.S. citizenship status.
