Fisher Associates is seeking a Senior Highway Transportation Engineer (PE) with 20+ years of progressive highway and roadway design experience, including NYSDOT projects, to serve as a technical leader within our Infrastructure + Mobility team. This role is well suited for a seasoned Professional Engineer who is driven by technical excellence, sound engineering judgment, and the opportunity to shape meaningful transportation improvements within the communities we serve.


With a strong backlog of transportation work and a major upcoming NYSDOT project, this role offers immediate involvement in high-profile, technically complex assignments for state and municipal clients. As a Senior Highway Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority on roadway reconstruction, corridor improvements, intersection upgrades, and other transportation infrastructure projects. You will provide advanced design oversight, ensure quality and regulatory compliance, guide engineering standards, and mentor staff while strengthening our transportation practice. What You’ll Do as a Senior Highway Transportation Engineer

  • Serve as senior technical lead and subject matter expert for the development of highway design plans and construction cost estimates for new and rehabilitation projects.
  • Perform and oversee advanced geometric roadway design, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, grading, and interchange layouts.
  • Manage complex design challenges independently.
  • Serve as the technical authority conducting comprehensive reviews to ensure quality, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Opportunity to serve as Engineer of Record, assuming full responsibility for the technical integrity of roadway design documents.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local design standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Support project managers in maintaining scope, schedule, and budget alignment.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including responding to RFIs and participating in site visits.
  • Lead coordination with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their development and strengthening team capability.
Requirements

What You Bring, Your Expertise as a Senior Highway Transportation Engineer

  • Professional Engineering License (PE)
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field (MS preferred)
  • 20+ years of progressive highway design experience
  • Advanced proficiency in MicroStation or OpenRoads.
  • Experience working with and adhering to NYSDOT design standards
  • Demonstrated experience serving as senior technical reviewer and design authority.

Salary Range $130,000-$175,000

Actual compensation will vary based on experience, qualifications, and other factors. The listed salary range does not guarantee specific pay or reflect total compensation and excludes the value of benefits.
