R&D Intern
Description

POSITION SUMMARY

/ The R&D Engineering Intern will work closely with the current R&D Engineering team to complete process improvement projects surrounding the R&D/Toll Melting department.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

/ Work with engineering team members on specific mechanical design concepts for research and development projects.

/ Provide new ideas (and specifications) that will improve the performance or robustness of mechanical equipment within R&D & production melting furnaces.

/ Update or create new drawings, P&IDs, and generate BOM list to release to manufacturing.

/ Track progress of part manufacturing and provide engineering support. 

/ Assists in the Computer Aided Design (CAD) of subassemblies.

/ Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for melting processes.

/ Generate high quality written reports, proposals, instructions, manuals, and other documentation forms.

/ Assist in troubleshooting subsystem components associated with the melting equipment.

/ Provides reports on the status of project milestones and task changes as needed. 

/ Process data review to understand the mechanical system environment and specification requirements. 

/ Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

/ Good working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

/ Working knowledge of materials suitable for use in high temperature, corrosive environments.

/ Ability to preform basic to intermediate mass/energy steady state balances.

/ Ability to research industry relevant publications.

/ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.


Education and Experience:

/ Currently enrolled in Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university.

/ Experience using CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor or similarly capable software.

/ Previous Internship/Co-op experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:

/ The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, hear and talk.  

/ The employee is frequently required to use hands.  

/ The employee occasionally will be required to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.  

/ The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Salary Description
$20 - $23 Depending on Experience
