Job Summary
The Soil Sort Worker is responsible for sorting incoming soiled laundry in preparation for the laundry process.
Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
This position will work within a team of people performing similar duties. Along with one or more employees, may perform some or all of the following duties during a given shift:
· Manually open bags containing soiled linen
· Push or pull a cart weighing up to 250 pounds from the adjoining sorting area
· Position cart on the floor-located scale to note bag weight
· Move the cart up to the hoist loading area
· Lift bag straps and attach them to the overhead hoist
· Activate hoist control pushbuttons to initiate the conveyance of the bag
· Sort linen by hand to identify and separate by type
· Pick up and place linen in the appropriate bins
· Demonstrates friendly and respectful behavior in the work environment
· Perform job rotation as required
· Assist in any job duty as instructed by Management.
Minimum Qualifications
· Ability to read and write
· Quality orientation and high attention to detail
· Ability to manage multiple tasks, changing priorities and easily adapt to fluctuating situations
· Strong teamwork skills- ready and willing to work closely with employees
· Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds
· Ability to continuously push/pull carts over 250 pounds
· Open, and able, to work, day or night shifts, and willing to rotate shifts depending on production need
· Open to long hours and working weekends (Saturday/Sunday), when necessary
· Pass a background check and drug screen, in accordance with applicable laws.
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience working in a plant environment
Physical Requirements.
· Physical demands include constant standing and frequent walking.
· Constant reaching above and below shoulder height, twisting, grasping, and pulling items and work tools such as mops, towels, and cleaning products.
· Repetitive hand movement includes simple and power grasping, fine manipulation and pushing and pulling items up to 50 pounds on a constant basis.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
· Required to wear and use personal protective equipment as needed.
· Ability to complete job duties while wearing protective gear during indoor and outdoor tasks.
· Ability to hear for safety and awareness of surroundings.
· Ability to meet the physical demands for the entire shift.
Work Environment
Production areas of a typical industrial laundry facility, which includes working with and around large machinery, variations in temperature (non-air-conditioned work area), noise, humidity, and other hazards.
