As a member of the Technical Operations team, the Deployment & TechOps Specialist will support the delivery, monitoring, and maintenance of our software platforms in our Professional Services environments. This intermediate level role focuses on executing software deployments, performing initial troubleshooting of infrastructure issues, and assisting in the automation of routine operational tasks.
The individual will work closely with senior engineers to ensure high system availability and will contribute to improving deployment scripts and internal technical documentation.
Essential Functions:
- Deployment Execution: Manage and monitor the deployment of software updates across customer staging and production environments, ensuring successful releases and minimal downtime.
- Infrastructure Monitoring & Support: Provide first-level support for platform health, diagnosing and resolving fundamental technical issues before escalating complex cases to senior team members.
- Automation Assistance: Assist in developing and maintaining scripts (e.g., Python, Bash, Ansible) to automate repetitive deployment and monitoring tasks.
- Technical Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for deployment procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
- Operational Availability: Participate in an on-call schedule to provide support for critical system alerts outside of standard business hours.
- Cross-functional Support: Collaborate with the Support and Development teams to test patches and provide feedback on deployment tooling.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience & Expertise:
- 1–3 years of experience in technical support, IT operations, or a related field; recent graduates with relevant co-op/internship experience are encouraged to apply.
- Foundational knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
- Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS) and web technologies (SSL/TLS).
- Technical Proficiency:
- Working knowledge of AWS cloud environments.
- Familiarity with other cloud environments (e.g., Azure, GCP) and a desire to learn modern cloud-native architectures.
- Basic competency in scripting or coding (e.g., Bash, Python, or PowerShell).
- Understanding of database basics (SQL, NoSQL) and how applications interact with data stores.
- Understanding of CI/CD concepts and deployment tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Ansible, or Terraform) is considered a strong asset.
- Analytical & Communication Skills:
- Strong interest in root-cause analysis and a proactive approach to learning complex systems.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) for interacting with technical teams and documenting processes.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Communication:
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for conveying complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to contribute to support projects and initiatives, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction, teamwork, and collaboration.
Additional Desirable Skills:
- Experience using the AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) for infrastructure as code.
- Introductory competency in scripting or coding (e.g., Bash, Python, or PowerShell).
- Advanced proficiency in Node.js or Python for developing or troubleshooting backend logic.
- Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions or Bitbucket Pipelines).
