Teaching Responsibilities (4th - 8th PE)
- Plan, organize, and implement developmentally appropriate PE lessons for grades 4–8.
- Teach a variety of physical activities, including team sports, individual fitness, and wellness education.
- Promote physical fitness, healthy lifestyle habits, and positive social interaction among students.
- Monitor student progress, assess skill development, and provide feedback to students and parents.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and orderly environment during all PE activities.
- Prepare students for participation in school-wide sports events, tournaments, and activities.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required.
Athletic Director
- Oversee all aspects of the school’s athletic programs, including team formation, schedules, and coaching assignments.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the school’s mission and Catholic identity.
- Ensure compliance with league rules, safety regulations, and school policies.
- Manage athletic budgets, equipment, and facilities.
- Recruit, supervise, and support volunteer and paid coaches.
- Coordinate athletic events, tournaments, and logistics.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, coaches, and school leadership regarding athletic programs.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development in all school athletics.
Administrative/ Other Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean and organized environment
- Communicate regularly and respectfully with parents and colleagues
- Return phone calls and emails in a timely and professional manner
- Supervise students during recess and other assigned duties
- Demonstrate confidentiality, professionalism, and alignment with Catholic school values
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the administration
Religious Qualifications
- Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
- Respects and supports the Catholic mission and philosophy of the school
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field
- Teaching credential or certification preferred (state-specific if applicable)
- Experience teaching grades 4–8 preferred
- Strong knowledge of PE curriculum, child development, and age-appropriate instructional strategies
- Ability to motivate, engage, and build positive relationships with students
- Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills
- Commitment to fostering a faith-centered and inclusive environment
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Clear Livescan background check through the Diocese of San Diego
- Positive professional references
Physical Requirements
To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:
- Spend the majority of the day standing outside. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
- Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
- Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
- Ability to demonstrate physical activities and participate in active movement.
- Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
