POSITION: Summer Programs Certified Instructor (Part Time)

REPORTS TO: STEAM Programs Manager


JOB SUMMARY:

This temporary position is responsible for instructing and facilitating activities during our summer programs classes at Pablo Center at the Confluence.


This position will have opportunities to improve teaching skills, learn from industry partners and gain experience working with students. Classes are structured to be project based with lots of work time for students. This position will work with the STEAM Programs Manager to plan the best classes possible and always be improving those classes.

SALARY: $29 per hour


CLASSES:

Topics include art and design, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), shark tank business invention, Rube Goldberg simple physics machines, board game design, Dungeons & Dragons, coding, and LEGO robotics (Mindstorm and SPIKE kits). The full class list will be shared with applicants.

STUDENT LEVEL: Varied classes for students entering grades 3-5, 4-6, 7-9, and 7-1.

DUTIES:

  • Assist in classroom instruction including but not limited to:
  • Presenting on assigned topics
  • Demonstrating skills that students need to learn either in your field of expertise, interest, or assisting in facilitating other classes
  • Facilitate ice breakers and brain break activities
  • Assist students during work time including but not limited to:
  • Being able to help with a problem without giving the student the answer
  • Moving about the room so that all students are seen and get help if they need it
  • Help students use the design process to solve their problems
  • Help manage students when leaving the building for a walking field trip
  • Assist with student drop off and pick up

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Encourage a kind, collaborative, creative, and energetic classroom
  • Provide a safe space for all students to succeed and learn
  • Assist with classroom clean up and rearranging when needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Ability to create lesson plans and document curriculum

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience working with children
  • Ability to problem solve

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Be able to read a classroom and adapt to what students need
  • Must be able to communicate in front of a classroom
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

WILLING TO LEARN SKILLS:

  • LEGO Mindstorms or SPIKE, block coding, and/or basic art and design programs
